The Michigan State University (MSU) Community Music School (CMS) is the outreach division of the MSU College of Music. CMS brings music education and music therapy to those of all ages and abilities within the Greater Lansing community.
CMS is conveniently located off-campus in East Lansing. (See map and driving directions).

MSU Children's Choirs Concert
Bring a Friend Month
From November 16-December 19, CMS is opening all classes, lessons and ensembles to the friends of CMS students and therapy clients. Check our our e-newsletter or ask your teacher for more information. Participants receive a special gift.
Holiday Carillon Concert
Come to Beaumont Tower on Sunday, December 6 for a Holiday Carillon Concert and Sing-Along! The concert begins at 2 p.m.
Handel's Messiah Sing-Along
Community members are invited to attend and participate in a Sing-Along Messiah, featuring songs from Handel's Messiah including "And the Glory of the Lord", "For Unto Us a Child is Born", "O Thou that Tellest Good Tidings to Zion" and the famous "Messiah". Admission is $10, students are encouraged to bring their own scores, but scores will be available for $8 at the door.

CMS offers financial aid for students with need.
CMS launches YouTube channel
CMS recently launched its own channel, MSUCMS, on YouTube. Videos include clips from the Eric 'RicStar' Winter Music Therapy Camp, the School of Rock Camp, recent news coverage and Mary Alice Stollak's Farewell Concert video.

Find a Teacher
Are you looking for an instrument teacher for your child or yourself? This is the right place! We offer lessons on all band and orchestra instruments, piano, voice, guitar, even carillon. To find a teacher, you can call the office to give us information that will help us make a placement, or (even easier) you can try our new online lesson request form, located at http://www.cms.msu.edu/lessons.php. Fill in the form and send it to us, and we'll try to place you with a teacher within 48 hours.
Mission Statement
Founded on the belief that music dramatically enhances the quality of life, CMS offers opportunities for the study, appreciation, and therapeutic use of music while nurturing the musical development of all. At CMS, students and therapy clients are brought together with music professionals, who are committed to sharing their extraordinary gifts by offering accessible and affordable music instruction, music therapy, and performance opportunities for all in our community. Financial aid is available to those with need.
CMS was founded in 1993 and is a member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.
